Castello Sforzesco in Milan

The iconic medieval fortress is one of Milan's main hotspots

The colossal Castello Sforzesco was built during the 1450s on the foundations of the ancient Visconti Castle. It was the ducal residence of Francesco Sforza and his family, who were ruling Milan during the Renaissance. The building is home to precious collections of art and artefacts from Egyptian, Lombardian, and Roman times, as well as Michelangelo's unfinished Rondanini Pietà.
